I had the opportunity to photograph the dress rehearsal of AROVA Contemporary Ballet for the “Choreographer’s Showcase.” It has been a while since I attended a showcase and it was my daughter’s first experience, so I felt like it was a good girl’s day out while enjoying the arts in our fine city. As I sat there in the audience, I had to put my camera down for a while during the performance of “On the Nature of Daylight” which was choreograph by Tom Mattingly. Without a program in my hand, I knew there was a special message for me. So, I decided to come back later that night to the opening show to be able to see the whole show without my camera. Well, not exactly, I still had my camera. (LOL).
“On the Nature of Daylight was constructed around the concept of time. As times goes on, others provide great influence in our lives. Their entrance and exit can greatly alter the path that we are on. While we are all on own path, no none is ever truly alone.”
After reading that, I was taken back with some tears coming to my eyes and started to think of my dad. Most of you know that I lost my dad last year and it has taken a toll of me with adjusting. Reading those words, just reminded me how much of an influence he was in my life. I know I am never alone no matter what path I decide to take. I know he is always with me in spirit and will be always smiling down on me. I guess, my daughter felt it as well. It ended up being her favorite dance as well. It is amazing how a dance and even words can encourage you during a moment.
If you ever a chance, go check out AROVA Contemporary Ballet. You will not be disappointed and remember to “SUPPORT THE ARTS.”
until next time…
